This is my first time to this site. I bought 6 sites last August and was really excited about e-commerce and the possibilities. I bought just about everything that came along from SOL after that but then balked when the Tax Club told me after buying into the Tax Club that I would have to buy some accounting software for arround $2K for them to give me the deductables they needed to optomize my return. I had by then developed 2 sites with no sales and was concerned about more spending with nothing comming in.
Anyway, I am pretty discouraged. I have built 3 sites plus some other starts. I deactivated one of my sites but currently have 2 buyamericanmadeflags.com and cyclepartslocator.com.
Cycle Parts Locator was started with a partner who I approached about starting a storefront selling something for motorcyles and he came up with the idea of selling used motorcycle parts. He told me that he could find the part after a couple of phone calls. I built the site and started a pay per click campaign with overture at $10 a day and with arround 100 visitors I was getting 10 to 20 requests. After receiving 300 requests and no parts from my partner that I knew of I decided to investigate. I went to one motorcyle salvage location and in talking to the owner received some 10 quotes. In my conversation with him I decided because I don't have a background in motorcyles that I might do better selling subscriptions to my site for my leads as some others are doing. I started trying that with e-mailing and faxing potential subscribers and calling some. I have arround 4 suppliers subscribing but through a billing mess up only collected from 1. I have decided that I need to build up my suppliers by letting them subscribe for free and try to build up my request with higher search engine rankings and sometime in the future start charging for suppliers/subcribers. I, also, added a line of new parts and actually split the line off to its own storefront but with no sales decided to recombine and still no new parts sales.
I published my other site buyamericanmadeflags.com arround Nov/Dec and have had one sale. I haven't really gotten much traffic to it.
I tried MIVA pay per click on both my now unpublished business display site and my new motorcyle parts site and was able to generate a 100+ visitors a day but no sales but even at 5 cents a click without sales I turned them off.
Anyway I am a bit discouraged and am thinking that maybe you have to find the right product or angle. I admit that I spent alot of time in building my sites as far as loading products. I haven't spent as much time in optimizing my sites.
I have heard that just being published for awhile will help and think that maybe if I just be patient and continue to publish sites that over time I will get the traffic I need.
I am looking at building another site thinking that if I have the right product that I will have more success. I think that e-commerce has alot of potential but am very discouraged and have seen the comments about possibly getting my money back.
I have gone on long enough. I am interested in peoples comments and advice/suggestions. Feel free to look at my sites and let me know what you think.
