View Full Version : Anyone Else Having These Problems??

My SOL website has been distorted for 3 days now. The center column spreads way over to the right so a person has to scroll way over to read what's there. I've contacted SOL about it every day and they say it's a problem with the Oddessy template and they should have it fixed within 24 hours. I'm getting over 100 clicks a day from pay-per-click services with very little chance of making a sale. Most visitors click off the website immediately.

I tried to see if the other template I'm using on a second store I'm building has the same problem and can't view it in 'Preview' mode. I get an error message that says the store hasn't been published yet. I tried to view my Oddessy template store in 'Preview' mode and get a blank screen.

I'm beginning to wonder if SOL is having some major problems with the software. They certainly aren't getting things fixed within 24 hours like they say they will. I also noticed that, along with the stats being down, the chat was down for half a day and I somehow got put on a spammers list and had my email refused until I got someone there to take me off.

This is getting frustrating.

Sue,
Whenever you are having a problem that will lose you the visitors - go into your PPC accounts and pause them immediately. It only takes a couple seconds - and when all is fixed, you can start them again.

Let me know if this isn't fixed tomorrow - I'll give them that it's a weekend.

Sue,

Both your websites appear to be viewed correctly from here. May I ask what screen resolution you monitor is set to?

I’m running on a low 1024 x 768 and there is no sideways scrolling needed for me.

Hi Beth,

Thank you. I didn't realize you could pause your pay-per-click. I'll go in and do that until they get this fixed.

Hi Noel,

Both my monitor at work and the one at home are also set at 1024 X 768. It doesn't make sense that the website seems distorted on both my computers and doesn't on yours. It looked fine here until Friday. I just checked to see if maybe they got it fixed since yesterday, but it still runs off the side.

This is interesting. Thank you for letting me know.

Hi Sue,

Interesting...

The 1024 x 768 was on my work PC today and looked fine. However I just checked again just now on my home PC, dropped the res down to 1024 x 768 and I can see what you mean.

Your RuffNet Designs site is fine, but yeah your Discounted Books site is rolling sideways for me here at home too.

Though I think I found what your problem is: :D

Your "spacer.gif" file. The solid black lines. These are set with a fixed width of 780. They should NOT have a set width in pixels.

Looks like you may have added these lines in manually via HTML to make your "add to cart" stand out more? Your best using a width of 100% instead.

Try this and see if it helps...

p.s. Just noticed that the center table also has a set fixed width of 780. Well it shouldn't. It should also be set to 100%. I think this is a fault with the template.

Hi Noel,

The RuffNet Designs website is not a SOL one. I didn't do anything to the html. I don't even know how to access it. I don't think we have full access to the code. If that's what is there you are right. I hadn't thought to do a 'view source' to look at the code myself to try to find what's wrong. If that's all it is, I don't see how it can be taking so long for them to find it and fix it. It would be interesting to know how it got switched to those values. Like I said it's looked fine until Friday.

I wish we had full access to the html code. Is there a way to edit the html code that I don't know about?

Thank you so much for finding that for me,
Sue

We had access to all that coding in the 4.0 version of SOL. The "new improved" 5.0 took away that access - which stinks. However, whenever something like this happened in 4.0 - they would blame us for doing customization. They can't blame you - as they are the only ones who could have changed that. It is a fluid template, and they are giving static coding. Call them and tell them that is what they did. Let me know tonight if it isn't fixed and I'll send a message to Sean Guy in the morning -

Hi Beth,

That's too bad they took that from us in the new version. I have had several occasions where I wished I had access. I talked to someone in tech support just now and told them about the fixed pixels on the center table and the spacer gif like Noel said. They said they were working on it (still) and should have it fixed in the next few days. Maybe this information will help them get if fixed faster.

I'll let you know if it's not fixed by tomorrow. Thank you for offering to help.

I'll be leaving work at 6:00. I'll let you know what the status is then. Also, I went in and deactivated my pay-per-click services. Thank you again for the tip.

It's almost 6:00pm and the website still has not been fixed. If you know someone who may be able to get it fixed, I would appreciate it if you would contact them.

Thank you very much.
Sue
