Hi everyone, As I was putting my site on free directories, alot was mentioned that if I put a link on my link page I would get a higher page ranking.

Wouldn't mind doing that I quess but my goodness I would have quite a few of them on my site.
Does anyone have any suggestions on this subject.

Thanks

I'm registered with a lot of free organic directories and I have given them reciprocal links. I guess it depends on how you feel about the directory -- but if you didn't like it then you probably wouldn't be putting your link on it!

Hi there, Guess about asking like wow directory and anywhere that will let me put my site on them for free.

Hope I am saying this right. I get to reading all of the great posts on this site and my brain starts looking like cauliflower!!!

Alice, if the directory is one you want to be on - of course you should join it. If they want a link back, there is nothing wrong with having a category for the directories.

Is this what you're asking? Cuz I think it's what Shoshana said, put your response confused me.

Sorry, didn't mean to do that. I thought she was saying directories that have to do with my product. I was just thinking of general directories. I got it now. I think I will do that and set up a separate page for those.

Again thanks

Shoshanna, you mentioned linking .....

I see that your baby site does not have a links page. So, I assume you are mixing your links into your site in appropriate places?

A Baby's World has 46 links pages, unless the gremlins has hidden them overnight.

Scroll down to the footer and click on 'Links'

ok.....I knew there was something wrong. I was looking in the nav. bar not in the footer. And, it is early a.m. and I working without my glasses! That makes your footers 'out of site'.

I chose to put my links link in the footer and not the nav bar because, I want it to be available to the SE AND my customers but I would like for my customers to take a really good look at all that I have before looking elsewhere.

With it in the footer, they can find it if they are looking for it (unless it's early morning and they don't have their glasses, of course  ) but it's not so obvious as to distract them from looking on MY store for what they are trying to find.

If someone types in "children's music" they are likely to land right in the middle of my links page for children's music anyway, and that would be fine because I don't have any children's music -- except on my links page.

So, you have your links topics in your search box? I never thought of that. I always wondered about the links taking customers OFF your page. Putting it in the footer makes sense.

Whoops  I wasn't too clear on that. No, I don't have my links pages in the search box. It would be impossible in my case because I'm with Zeus and the Zeus pages are actually off site. The only thing that can be found in the search box are what's on your store.

I was talking about a Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc., search.
