View Full Version : LA without FTP

Hi,
Sorry, I have asked far too many questions about this stuff. But, here is one more. I think Bethers does the cut and paste thing with LA. I really have trouble using the FTP stuff and do not understand it, so if I cut and past my links pages from LA, should I cut and paste the CODE or the PREVIEW page? Will the Code work as a text element in my storebuilder page? Or should I be pasting in the Preview page text? Does this matter?

Neither one Eileen - you use the created links.html pages, which are saved in a folder on your pc, after you created them within LA.
From there you start with the main page: "links.html" - copy it into note- or editpad - create an element in your storesfront (don't forget to click "edit" on this element and checkmark "don't convert carriage return")
and paste it from your note- or editpad into this element - click on "done" - "publish" and see, if it works.
Afterwards you copy and paste the other created "html pages" (each one by itself) into an element of a subpage of your Links Page.
Hope it helps:-)

Actually, you don't even need to copy to notepad.
You need to open the created page that is saved on your computer and click on "view source" and it will automatically open the notepad version. I have discovered that I much prefer how the view source code looks when I do it in the firefox browser - so if you have that installed on your computer, when your right click to view source - also tell it which browser you want it to open in (unless you have your brower already defaulted to firefox) - the code is much cleaner in firefox.
Just remember, you might not need to copy the entire page - like I don't copy the stuff that is in it to move around the ftp'd pages, since I don't need that.

Thanks Matt and Bethers,
I am so-o-o-o slow to catch on to this LA stuff, but I will really try to get it done using all of this great information from both of you. Words cannot express how much I appreciate your answers to all of my dumb questions.

My pleasure Eileen - your thanks should only apply to Beth - she is always like that, while I am -as a newbie to your great state-, just trying to make a good impression (don't get used to it)
Seriously,my only advantage is, nobody "watched" me, while I was learning LA and there are no dumb questions.
Humble as always :)

Slappin' Matt - as he is really the LA guru - and being humble as usual.
Eileen - I'm glad to help when I can - and I do know how frustrating this all can be - believe me - I've been there, done that :)

To Beth:
I had to put my personal email into the LA info. But it shows up on the preview page above the link code box. The code box shows my website's regular email which Stores defaults to my personal email. I have customerservice@slumberscene.com or sales@slumberscene.com which SOL defaults to my personal email. Viktar told me to use my personal email on everything, but I really do not want it to show up on my published links pages. Beth, I notice that you have each of your website's email addresses listed on your links pages. How do you do this and how can I avoid using my personal email address on the links page?

I did not use the code box from link assistant - although I used some of the code to make my own page. I use link assistant to help me - but don't use all that it programs. If you are copying and pasting code onto your pages, you can CHANGE anything you want to be what you want. You can take out what you don't want - put in what you do want.
It took me awhile to understand that you meant my links to us pages - those are all made by me using html.

Thanks again, Beth,
I will try to get it right and let you know when it works for me.

Eileen,
You can always do a view source on my page and see what I did, too.

I'm completely lost.
I, too, would like to be able to copy and paste the links from LA to my storebuilder, but do not understand what is meant by the "created page that is saved on your computer" part and how you get it to open in Firefox, click on view source, and copy and paste from there.
Perhaps I didn't set up LA correctly to begin with. I have a folder with the LA document inside, but it only opens in LA. Am I missing a step? I'm using a mac, so I don't know if the process is different.
I generated a links page and tried to copy and paste from that to my storebuilder, but that didn't work.
I hope I've explained myself, clearly. When one is confused it's difficult to explain exactly what the issue is and what help is needed.

When you generate the links page, it saves it onto your computer. Now, if you didn't tell it where to save it - you need to find it! I have it saving in a Link Assistant file in my documents. Find the file - that's where you open the generated pages to view source and copy and paste.
Let me or Matt know if you can't find them. He covers this somewhere in the tutorial - but it is there somewhere - and if necessary, you can search your computer to find it.

Ureka!!! I found the file and was able to view source, copy and paste. I'm not sure if I saved it in the right place, but it's working and I know how to get to it.
Thanks soooo much for your help. :)

Congrats for your find :-) !
If you ever want to change the default folder, where the pages are being saved after LA generated them - go in your LA to your code page - in one of the tabs - it says "Edit" - in there you see 4 fields, the second one askes you, where on your pc the files are to be saved - it offers a default folder, which you can change. - After you determined a new destination - click on "ok" - and you are good to go.
The same can be done, where your main LA program file can be saved.
In your LA - Partner page - when you do a "save as" - you can determine a different folder as the default one.
To make it easier - I save everything, which is part of LA - in one folder on my pc.
