Just to be clear, we don't want it to trigger the security code right?

Correct - so don't put it in the header or nav or footer where it would travel to the shopping cart.

Leo - You're right. It's best not to trigger the security code.
I have to say.......I added this code Saturday, and already I've had a noticeable increase in page views per customer!

One other point, the security code companies tell us that they've done studies on placement. They say that the higher up on the page you can get it, the better your sales.
This code is nice looking and has a little flash to attract people to it. But you still don't want it to ruin the looks of your store.
Up high, but not obnoxious. I wouldn't suggest you put it above your H1 tags in the middle of your home page. :?
I'm talking about SOL 4.0 stores here. In Pro 5 you might be able to put it in the right bar without triggering the security code. Or if you are not being hosted by SOL it may not be a problem.

I checked out the isafesite web site and they require a Privacy Policy page. Seems to me 4.0 had built in a privacy policy page, but apparently, 5.0 doesn't and I have forgotten to create one.
What, exactly, should I say in a Privacy Policy page?

5.0 does have a privacy page built in, it usually defaults to being a link or sub page of either your contact page or your about us page. If you look carefully at all your pages in your page list in the builder you should be able to find it.
I have it in the left side of my home page and in the center at the bottom of my order form on the billing and shipping input pages.

Thanks for the quick response, but I still cannot find the page. I'll create my own page, but need to know what I should be saying.
Thanks.

Noreen,
Why don't you go to your store and put a product in the cart and click to checkout. You'll see the pop-up that displays and is being triggered by having something not secure on your secure page.

Beth,
After your first response to my question, I removed the isafesite icon from the background and just placed it on my homepage and privacy policy page. Since I'm confused about when and where the message occurs, I didn't know I could test it myself.
I guess there is some kind of message that comes up to block the transaction? I've never seen it before, so I was just wondering.
Lawrence,
Thanks for the response, but Leo pasted the SOL privacy policy in his response, so I used it.
The isafesite site said you must have one on your site before you register so I didn't look any further than that.
Thanks for the input.

The security pop up comes at check out if you have non secure links and/or logos in your header, nav bar, right bar, or footer. It doesn't BLOCK the sale but asks your customer whether they want to display the non secure information.
This scares some of them off and they just leave without completing the sale. That's why it's good to not have it pop up.
And as Beth said, you can check this out yourself by doing a test checkout.

I put Safe Site code on my home page and shopping cart page, instead of the SOL Security Metrics code. I have a privacy policy page but did not put the code there. Thanks for telling me about Safe Site.

As most of you know we think it's important to have some type of security code on our stores. It reassures the public and you can't get them unless your site is secure.
The VeriSign Secure and Security Metrics really belong to SOL. I've negotiated a half price for forum members for Control Scan but it's still $399 a year!
Now we've found a free security code that seems to be working well. The moderators have been testing it out. Here is a link to it if you would like to get it on your store. It takes anywhere from 12 to 48 hours to get it approved and if you put it in your nav bar, header, or footer it will trigger the security code at check out.
The site is http://www.isafesite.org/
Most of us have put it on our Home page, Shopping cart, and Security or Privacy statement pages.
I am trying to add this to my home page and it doesn't seem to be working. I signed up and was approved and they sent me an email with the html code that i am to copy and i am adding a text element to my home page and pasting the code in the html and when i hit "update", nothing happens and the element shows up blank.
Any suggestions?

Did you remember to tick to not convert carriage returns?
Shoshana
6th Nov 2006, 04:42 AM
You have a Pro 5 store so you don't click on "Don't convert carriage returns."
Let me walk you through it once again just to make sure you've done it correctly.
Add a text element to your home page. Highlight and click on Edit, lower right. It will open in a new window. Choose where you want this text element to appear. You will probably choose center-center.
Now click on Edit upper right. This will bring up a new text box. Don't put anything in here.
Instead look at the top and click on html. This will bring up a page where you insert the code from iSafe. Make sure nothing is already inserted there. If it's clean, insert the code and click 'Update'
This will take you back to the page where you chose html. Click on Done. Now you can preview.

Hi!
I'm so glad that we can use this security option for our site...and best of all for free! I have the 4.0 version and I can't get the logo to work. Nothing appears and I've published many times and still nothing. Could it be my templates? I have checked the "dont convert carriage returns" and that didn't do it.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Something for everyone who uses some of the mail programs, yahoo included, to realize, is somehow the code can sometimes get garbled in their programs, unfortunately. It's usually the free accounts it happens with.

The code I received works beautifully in the text element I created, and positioned at the top of the right side panel - so far on the HP Background only.
Problem is, in Preview it does trigger the secure/non-secure pop-up, even before I had clicked 'Done' after updating the HTML to appear in the Text window itself.
Where should I place it? I haven't published, since adding the code.
Should this logo not appear on all pages? :?:
I guess I don't understand the comments re what carries through to the shopping cart, etc. :?:
:?
Sybille

it pops up in the builder because the builder is on a secure server so it will trigger the alerts.

Hello Beth,
Correct - so don't put it in the header or nav or footer where it would travel to the shopping cart.
Could you enlarge on this statement, please :?:
I can see why we don't want the secure/non-secure pop-up to travel along. Do you also mean that we do not want the iSafeSite logo to show up in the shopping cart, the check out, etc. :?:
If 'yes', wouldn't that defeat the purpose? :?:
I'm in V 5. I put the logo in ea. of my 3 unique backgrounds. Thus this makes the logo appear in about 98% of our site.
I've tested it out a few minutes ago from the live site, moving through various pages, including check out, (but forgot the shopping cart). On ea link the logo shows up at the top of the right-hand column. Is that an appropriate placement? :?:
The first security prompt I encountered was when I clicked on Member Registration. It wasn't the secure/non-secure pop-up, but a trusted site one, i.e. http vs https, the same warning that comes up every time I go into StoresOnline. Then it switched urls from the live site's "gogpsdirected.com" to https://www.storesonlinepro.com/store/1751735/member_registration?sitecookie=365185db71ad7c607b5 111bf65485c39.
Is that a normal/acceptable sequence/re-direction? :?:
I've searched that page, and its assigned form for clues, but haven't found any so far. (This last question probably should go in a separate post? If so, perhaps you could re-direct the last 3 paragraphs, from "The first security prompt...." Please and Thanks.

You want it on the shopping cart page, which is not a secure https page. You DO NOT want it on the check out pages, which is where it will travel if it's in your header, footer, left or right bar. Since the pages then change to https and are secure, it triggers the pop up.

Hello all:
There is a simple solution to prevent the security warning pop-ups for those using the 5.0 store builder. Just create a "Checkout" background and assign it to your checkout page. In this way you can add your security icons to the rest of your backgrounds but not to your "Checkout" background. This will keep your secure pages secure and allow you to easily put the icons on all of your non-secure pages.
Hope that helps,

Hello all,
I just got all four of my sites approved by safe site, so I am in the process of adding their logo to my sites. I have read every post down to here and if I understand correctly the easiest way to do this is to put the ISafeSite code for the particular site on the "default backround" for all the pages.
Make a separate backround just for the "Checkout Page" and don't put the Isafesite code on that particular backround.
Now having said that, I have a question. On my default backround I have a lot of off site links. For the backround page I make for the checkout page does anybody out here think I need to add all those links to this particular backround page, because I didn't. I added just enough navigation on the left , right and bottom to keep the style of the site in tact.
So did I get the SafeSite stuff right and does anyone see a gotcha with the other links being absent on the checkout page I missed?
Thanks a bunch, and have a great day,
Tris

I think you are doing it correctly. Any time you have an off site link on the check out page it will trigger the security logo, unless the link goes to an https site.
It's actually a clever way you have thought up to do it. In 4.0 we can put customize it and avoid the security pop up that way but not in 5.0

Thanks Shoshanna,
I just finished doing my last site and publishing it. You don't see any negatives to not adding all the off site links to this one backround, dedicated only to the checkout page, that are on the main default backround? I put just enough navigation and logos to keep up the page look so it doesn't look like you left the site.
I'm going to work of the FROOGLE stuff next, so wish me luck.
God Bless
Tris
Bethers, can you please help me, I have been reading the posts on the isafesite and received my code. I have added it as a text element and it seems to work fine except for the pop ups, thats where I get lost on what you guys are discussing to do in order to not get the unsecure/secure pop up window. The way you have it on the book scrapping site is fine. When it's in a text element it doesn't trigger the security popup (only in preview, which is fine).

I just went to get ISafe the other day for my picnic basket site and it was 19.99 I think. I paid it since I figured it was cheaper than control scan and the other ones. So I now have it on both of my sites, one was free and one was not!
Either way 19.99 for life is not too bad when you figure how much you spend just to get your store up and running!

Trinity:
In answer to your question;
Would you please explain what is meant by not want the code to be triggered?
I have SOL 5.0 and it doesn't seem that I have too much control over what appears in my header. Of course, I am a green girl website builder, so I appreciate the help bunches. If you place the iSafeSite icon on your checkout page(s) it will "trigger" a security alert for your visitors telling them that the page is not secure.
This is not a good thing as your customers expect and should receive a secure page on which to place their orders.
The reason the security alert is triggered is because you have a non secure server providing content to a secure page. The result is that you have non secure content on your secure page, thus making the page non secure.
In the 5.0 store builder you can overcome this issue by creating a separate background for your checkout page(s). Then simply add the iSafeSite icon to all backgrounds where you want the icon to appear, specifically excluding your checkout background.
You do not have to place the icon in the "Header" of your background or page. It can be placed in the left, center, right hand column, or footer of your background. It can be positioned pretty much anywhere on the page as you see fit. By placing the icon in the background you only have to add the code once, (if you have only a single background or to once to each additional background) and it will flow through all of the pages that use that particular background.
There are posts in the 5.0 room that explain how to work in backgrounds. Combined with the help files in the store builder you should be able to add the desired content. If you have specific questions about this issue you may want to post them in the 5.0 room.
I hope that helps,
Trinity

You do have an SSL server. Thats where you check out when someone orders. And thats why it triggers a security pop up. You want it on the NON secure pages only.

I agree with Beth
I believe the sites need a security seal. When I see sites that do not have them I think twice about ordering. I would order if that was the only site around and the price was not too high but I would order a smaller order to "test" the site instead of feeling confident everything would be alright.

Don't know if this belongs here or not. I would like to suggest to the moderators that they put somewhere that it is not allowed to put the Security Metrics or VeriSign logos on your site other than where they appear by default on the check out page put there by SOL. Seems a lot of people are doing so and don't realize they shouldn't without creating their own account with Security Metrics or VeriSign. If this info is already posted somewhere, I could not find it.

This post is specifically about the ISAFE seal.. although the SOL seals have been cussed and discussed numerous times.. this thread just got out of control on every other topic..
I moved the two beginning posts out and stuck them.. and then unstuck this.
